The main objective of the project is to characterize the influence of the environmental conditions (feeding, photoperiod and temperature) on the growth of the skeletal muscles in sub-Antarctic fishes. We hipotethize that fasting, low temperatures, short photoperiod and low feeding frequency will diminished the proportion of muscle progenitor cells in the fishes, and therefore, muscle growth. The influence of these environmental cues on muscle growth will vary depending on the main process ocurring in the experimental species, hyperplasia or hypertrophy.
